A crew member of the popular TV and Netflix series “Fauda” has died during Israel’s war against the Palestinian militant outfit Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Matan Meir, a 38-year-old Sergeant Major General (Reservist) from the Israel Defence Forces (IDF), died in the line of duty in Gaza, The Jerusalem Post reported.

“We are devastated to share that one of our Fauda family members, Matan Meir, was killed in action in Gaza. Matan was an integral crew member. The cast and crew are heartbroken by this tragic loss. We extend our condolences to Matan’s family and friends. May his soul rest in peace,” Fauda Official wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Meir, who hailed from Odem, fought in the 697th Battalion of the IDF’s 551st Brigade. Former IDF soldiers Lior Raz and Avi Isaacharoff created the popular Israeli television series. The series was picked up by Netflix in 2016 and went on to become one of the country’s most popular shows.

Taking to X, Assacharoff expressed condolences over Meir’s demise. “This evening, the Fauda family was informed that a member of the production team of the series, Major (res.) Matan Meir, 38, from Odem, a fighter in the 697th Battalion, 551st Brigade (the half-fire formation), was killed in battle in the north of the Gaza Strip. Of blessed memory,” Assacharoff wrote on X.
